What is this space for, and how can I ask a question such that I can be sure to receive a satisfying answer?
This space is intended as a repository for all of the questions that arise in the mind of a meditator who is practicing the meditation that we teach here: Mindfulness of the four Satipaṭṭhāna (often just called “Vipassana”.)
Our teacher, Venerable Yuttadhammo, answers questions about the technique and about the Dhamma taught by the Buddha, and many of these questions have been asked before, and answered elsewhere. It is our hope that, by providing this repository and forum, that the doubts of any practitioners be banished, and replaced with appropriate information and the confidence that they may practice correctly, for the goal of achieving freedom from suffering.
In order to best ensure a satisfying answer, we ask that questioners constrain their questions to our school (Theravada) and to our meditative tradition (Mindfulness of the four Satipaṭṭhāna outlined by the Mahasi Sayadaw, as taught by Ajahn Tong Sirimangalo). To comment authoratatively on matters beyond one’s experience would be risky, at best.
Though not all questions may be answered, there is no shame in the asking. Let your doubts be dispelled. May you be happy.
